'Like-minded' ministers to meet in Geneva on September 20 to devise joint strategy at WTO
ISLAMABAD (September 15 2002) : Commerce Ministers of 'Like Minded Group' (LMG), including Pakistan, are meeting in Geneva on September 20 to devise joint strategy in World Trade Organisation (WTO) on issues relating to agriculture sector.
Commerce Minister Abdul Razak Dawood told Business Recorder that the meeting would exclusively discuss the issues pertaining to agriculture sector, and added that the member countries would evolve a joint strategy to deal with the emerging challenges for the developing countries.
Sources said that the Indian Commerce Minister, who is also participating in the meeting, has written a letter to his Pakistani counterpart and appreciated his role in the revival of Pakistan's economy.
He was also quoted as saying in his letter that he was impressed by his expertise on trade and economic issues and wanted to see him in Geneva.
India was making efforts to get the status of 'Most Favoured Nation' (MFN) from Pakistan for promotion of trade relations, but Pakistan's Commerce Minister, in his last visit to India, made it clear that trade ties between the two neighbouring countries could not be normalised until Kashmir dispute is resolved peacefully.
