in agriculture sector discussed
ISLAMABAD-Japan would assist Pakistan in setting up of food
processing centre, up-gradation of public facilities,
training, research and testing functions of Marine Fishery
Department and Karachi Fish Harbour.
A delegation of Japan External Trade Organization, led by
Osamumizui, Director General of the Organization which called
on the Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture, Khair
Muhammad Junejo discussed this here on Wednesday.
The Minister appreciated the Japanese offer and hoped that
these projects after completion would help generate valuable
foreign exchange for the country. A committee comprising
members from both the sides to consider the projects in detail
was also set up.
They also discussed possibilities of co-operation between the
two countries in the agriculture sector with special reference
to exterminate Pink Ballworms of Cotton.
Khair Muhammad Juenjo said government recognizes the vital
importance to adopt long-term policies for enhancing
production in the country by revitalizing agro-based industry.
He stressed the need to develop Korangi Fish Harbor on
priority basis.
The leader of the Japanese delegation said that these projects
would go a long way in alleviation of poverty and uplifting
the people's lot. Secretary Food and Agriculture, Muhammad
Hafeez Akhtar and senior officials of the Ministry were also
present during the meeting.
