Horti Expo 2018 kicks off

LAHORE – Punjab agriculture department has for the first time organised HortiExpo 2018 to highlight the importance of local and foreign fruits, vegetables and high value agriculture crops.

Punjab Governor Malik Rafiq Rajwana inaugurated the Expo in which more than 40 countries and 16 leading companies are participating. More than 100 different stalls have been installed at Expo Centre, Lahore. The Expo will end today (Sunday).

Punjab Governor said the event will give a new horizon and open new doors of opportunities for producers, exporters and companies indulging in horticulture business in this country. He appreciated agriculture department for organizing such a mega event.

Agriculture Secretary Muhammad Mahmood said that it was obvious that horticultural production was a highly profitable enterprise which increased employment opportunities and brought about increased commercialization of rural areas. But, he said, much more efforts were needed to be undertaken to bring resource-poor farmers and landless laborers into this development. So, he said, for the first time horticulture was the central theme for Agriculture Department. He said that agriculture was a major contributor to the national economy, accounting for over 21 percent of its GDP.
