ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Secretary for Finance, Revenue, Economic Affairs Statistic and Privatization Rana Muhammad Afzal on Tuesday informed the National Assembly that the government is not considering to abolish import duty on maize.
Responding to a calling attention notice moved by Sheikeh Fayya-Ud- din regarding expected abolition of import duty on maize by the government, he said, “the government is not considering to abolish import duty on maize and total production of maize was 5.28 million tones during current year.”
However, he said it was the desire of the poultry association to abolish the regulatory duty on the maize but no such idea is under consideration.
He said that the government is committed to protect the interest of the local farmers.
