Govt to set up Horticultural Board for development of
horticultural products and its exports: Shafi Niaz
ISLAMABAD- Advisor to the President of Pakistan, Shafi Niaz
said the government is considering for the establishment of a
Horticultural Board for the betterment and development
of horticultural products and its export.
During his visit to Fruits and Vegetables Expo 2002 here on
Faburary 07, 2002, he appreciated the efforts of Export
Promotion Bureau and Horticultural Foundation of Pakistan for
holding this Expo.
He lauded the role of EPB for its untiring efforts to promote
exports specially of Horticultural products. Shafi Niaz
observed that the standard of the Expo was
marvelous. After the round of Expo he also chaired a session
of seminar on boosting horticultural exports.
In his address he pointed out that despite the fact that
Pakistan is a agricultural country but we import seeds upto
5000 M.T and import of ginger and garlic is more than of one
billion rupees.
He stressed the need to promote production of these products
so that foreign exchange could be saved.
Shafi Niaz said that in Pakistan, there is a great scope for
development of fruits, flower and vegetables.
He referred to the example of the Netherlands where the entire
economy depends on the export of cut flowers.
He said that Pakistan should develop the capability of growing
good quality horticultural products and through this we can
get a reasonable foreign exchange.
