Chanhio for efforts to promote livestock sector
HYDERABAD- Sindh Minister for Food, Agriculture and
Livestock, Hassan Ali Chanhio has emphasised the need of
maximum livestock production on latest scientific basis in
order to achieve the demand of required proteins for
people in shape of meat.
Speaking as a chief guest at the inaugural session of Farmers
Training Programme at the Livestock Training Development
Programme, organised by Sindh Livestock Department at Tando
Muhammed Khan on on February 11, 2002., the minister
informed that at present 17 grams per person animals proteins
are available against the requirement of 36 grams proteins for
each person.
He said that required demand of proteins can be achieved
through maximum livestock production in the country. He asked
Sindh Livestock Department to make efforts in this
respect on war footing basis so that maximum quantity of meat
and milk could be available in the province. A healthy
atmosphere, proper facilities and introduction of new and
cheap fodder are required for maximum growth of animals, he
added.
The minister emphasised the need of integrated agriculture
procedure and produce of subject specialists and master
trainers in order to achieve the task in livestock sector.
He expressed his dissatisfaction over the performance of Sindh
Livestock Department and said latest research with scientific
methods are required for promotion of livestock
sectors as 70 percent population of the country was based on
agriculture and livestock sectors.
Sindh Secretary for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries,
Abdul Rasheed Memon while speaking on the occasion said the
agriculture and livestock sectors are sharing 26 percent of
the total production in the country.
He informed that 31 million animals are available in Sindh
province from which, 8500000 tons milk and 448000 tons meat
are being obtained. He emphasised the need of latest research
on modern methods for maximum growths of animals in order to
cater the need of the country.
The Country Representatives of International Food and
Agriculture Organisation, Dr. Aboul A. Naga in his address
said that farmers are the important parts of the country and
providing them effective training in agriculture and livestock
sectors is
the need of the hour.
He said that poverty can be removed from the country by
promoting livestock sector in the country. He was happy to
note the seven percent increase in livestock sector in Sindh
Province.
He informed that the Federal Government has entered into
agreement with FAO under which a comprehensive livestock
policy and strategy will be formulated for rapid promotion of
livestock sector in the country.
The Director General, Sindh Livestock and Fisheries
Departments, Dr. Baz Muhammed Junejo also spoke the occasion.
