Agri Dept plan to increase sunflower yield in Punjab
LAHORE (APP)- Agriculture Department Punjab has chalked
out a comprehensive plan to increase sunflower production in
the province during the current year.
According to a report issued by the department, the sunflower
crop will be sown over an area of 300,000 acres with a
production target of 210,000 tons sunflower, at an average of
18.75 maunds per acre.
The major contribution in this regard would be from districts
Vehari, Bahawalpur, Multan and Sialkot, with expected areas
under cultivation to be 76238, 55296, 54067 and 41472 acres
respectively.
It is hoped that these areas will yield 50946, 44596, 36130
and 30580 tons sunflower respectively. The Agriculture
Department has advised farmers to use the recommended
varieties such as SF-187, Hison 33, SF-177, LG-5680 etc.
The extension staff of the department has been directed to
remain in contact with growers for help and guidance.
