The other variety BH 125 has been evolved by Cotton Research Station Bahawalpur with characterestics of highly disease resistant and high yielding. Similarly, Faisalabad cotton Research Centre has evolved Niab 98, which is also virus free and produces long staple cotton.

According to sources, the provincial seed council Punjab headed by Secretary Agriculture Punjab will meet in Multan on February 6 and give approval of the new cotton varieties for general cultivation and commercial production. The meeting will be attended among others by the Director General Federal Seed Certification Department, Regional Director, Central Seed Certification Department Multan, Director General Agriculture (Extension) Punjab and the breeders of the three new cotton varieties.

The agricultural scientists told this correspondent here on Saturday that the three varieties would not only help boost overall cotton production but also produce best quality cotton in the country, which had great demand by the domestic textile industry as well as foreign market.
