WTO challenges can be met by enhancing technical capability
FAISALABAD (January 24 2003) : Pakistan can meet the challenges posed by World Trade Organisation (WTO) by enhancing technical capability.
This was stated by Dr Riaz Hussain Qureshi, Vice Chancellor, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, at a seminar on 'WTO functions and related arrangements' held at Ayub Agricultural Research Institute, Faisalabad.
The Seminar was arranged by Punjab Agricultural Research Board with the collaboration of
AARI, Faisalabad. The speakers at the seminar stated that Pakistan needs to decrease the cost of production of its agricultural produce through the latest agricultural technology.
It was pointed out that besides increasing the agricultural productivity the quality of agricultural produce should also be increased to compete foreign export markets.
The speakers emphasised the need for the development of comprehensive strategy to revitalise the agricultural sector to make it more competitive and ensure sustainable growth in the agricultural sector.
Qamar Mohy-ud-Din, Associate Professor, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad and Dr Khalid Mustafa, Chairman, Department of Agricultural Marketing delivered the lectures on various aspects of WTO challenges.
Dr Ahmad Saleem Akhtar, Director, Plant Protection Institute, also expressed his views on new world trade order.
The prominent agricultural scientists from University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Ayub Agricultural Research Institute, Faisalabad and Punjab Agricultural Research Board attended the seminar.
