Artificial breeding of
'Mahaseer'
LAHORE (April 22 2003) : Punjab Fisheries Department has achieved a major break through after successful experiment of artificial breeding of an endangered fish species of South Asian countries 'Mahaseer'.
The Director-General Fisheries Department, Muhammad Ayub, stated this here on Monday.
The DG said that Pakistan has taken a lead over other South Asian countries, like India and Sri Lanka.
He added that a team of scientists and qualified fish biologists of the department, headed by Assistant Director Iftikhar Ahmad, was constituted and within one year Mahaseer was successfully artificially bred.
