Scientists determine
major yield factors in lentil
FAISALABAD-The scientists working
in Pulses Research Institute, Ayub Agriculture Research
Institute (AARI) have determined major yield factors in
lentil.
A study conducted at Pulses Research Institute has revealed
that plant height, productive branches and seed per plant are
major yield components in lentil. The results of the study can
be used as a criterion for selection of genotype/pure lines to
develop high yielding lentil varieties.
In this experiment, 64 promising lines of lentil including
approved varieties of Masoor-85, and Masoor-93 were studied.
At maturity, data on grain yield and yield components were
recorded. Seed yield was positively correlated with plant
height, number of productive (Secondary) branches, number of
pods and seeds per plant while number of seeds per pod and
1000-seed weight had no effect n seed yield.
