SARGODHA – Growers have urged the authorities concerned to take measures for securing the orange orchards against attacks of various dangerous diseases.
Trees were being damaged and more than 30 per cent less yield was expected this year. Farmers regretted that the Citrus Research Institute Sargodha (CRIS) had failed to guide them in this regard.
However, an official of CRIS told this scribe that a virus had spread in citrus orchards, and the use of excessive pesticides was also a reason behind dryness of trees.
Citrus Research Institute Sargodha Director Muhammad Nawaz Maken has advised growers to consult the CRIS experts for safeguarding their orange farms against the diseases. He admitted that during the current season more than 30 per cent low kinnow yield was expected.
