Chaniho calls for cotton
grower’s friendly policies
SUKKUR--The Sindh Food and
Agriculture Minister, Hassan Ali Chaniho, has called upon the
officials of agriculture department to devise such policies
that could help the cotton growers and the ginners in Ghotki
district.
He said that like Rahim Yar Khan district of Punjab,
government had declared Ghotki also as contamination free
cotton district and therefore underlined the need of achieving
the given targets in 2002.
Addressing the agriculture department officers, ginners and
office bearers of Cotton Ginners Association of Ghotki on
January 9, 2002, the minister said that federal government had
provided various incentives to the growers, including liberal
loans from banks for cotton, and wheat crops. " The success of
government's policies could only be guaged from their impact
on the farmers", the minister remarked.
He said, government intended to eliminate the role of middle
men so as to enable them to get the real value of their
peoduce. He advised the agriculture officials to undertake
frequent field surveys and resolve the farmers's problems at
their lands. He said, agriculture was the backbone of our
economy, and cotton crop was the main component of our
national
economy.
The minister also took serious notice of complaints of adamant
attitude of a nationalised bank's branch in Ghotki regarding
extending agri-credit to the farmers, and said, the matter
would be taken up with the bank's headquarter. He called for
convening a meeting of provincial chiefs of all nationalised
banks on 31st January, 2002 at Mirpurmathallo to review the
performance of Provincial Agriculture Credit Committee (PACC).
Earlier, President Ghotki Ginners Association, Deewan Nanik
Ram, and DCO Ghotki Israr Ahmed Shaikh spoke about the
