Chanda Dam will be helpful in irrigate greater area
PESHAWAR-The NWFP Governor Lt.Gen (R) Syed Iftikhar Hussain
Shah January
9, 2002 formally inaugurated the construction work on Chanda
Fateh Khan dam in Laachi, Kohat District to be completed at a
cost of Rs.87 million.
The Governor inaugurated the work during his visit to Laachi
by pressing the button for blasting of the site.Briefing the
Governor, Chief Engineer Irrigation told that on completion,
the dam would have the capacity to irrigate 1200 acres of land
besides storage facility upto 2000 acre feet for flood water
which is to be utilised for agriculture needs of the area.
The Governor said that the government has evolved a
comprehensive planning for taping water resources of the
province in order to bringing maximum barren lands under
cultivation. The inauguration of Chanda Fateh Khan Dam is the
proof of the government's resolve in this regard which was
overlooked by the previous regimes, he added.
The previous regimes, he said, spent Rs.20 million on the this
vital project but failed to complete it. However, he expressed
the present government's resolve to complete the project at
any cost in order to convert the barren lands of the district
Kohat into lush green fields.
General Iftikhar said, the best way to develop the Southern
parts of the province is to bring their million acres of
barren lands under cultivation. He said, by giving due
attention to agriculture sector, the government could develop
the agro based industrial sector of the province.
