Requirements for Animal and Animal Product Export
Facilities
BOSNIA-HERCEGOVINA, March 26, 2004 -- Bosnia and
Herzegovina (BiH) is enforcing new requirements for foreign
facilities that export live animals and animal origin food
products to the country. The export facilities must be
approved for export to the European Union or come from
countries that have equal or better veterinary practices than
BiH. The U.S. veterinary practices are recognized as being
better than BiH's.

AUSTRALIA, March 26, 2004 -- Wheat and barley crops in
2004/05 are forecast at relatively high levels, but below the
previous year's outstanding harvests. Sorghum production in
2005/06 is forecast to fall slightly, while rice production is
expected to rebound somewhat. The sowing of the 2004/05 wheat
and barley crops begins in April, while planting of the
2005/06 rice and sorghum crops will take place later this
year. Wheat and barley exports are forecast to decline
somewhat from the relatively high levels projected for
2003/04. Sorghum exports are forecast unchanged, while rice
exports are expected to rise slightly in 2005/06.

BRAZIL, March 26, 2004 -- Post estimates 2003/04 wheat
production at 5.9 million tons and record exports at 900,000
tons. Marketing year imports are forecast at 5.3 million tons,
which is 1.4 million tons less than the previous year.
Production in 2004/05 is forecast at 4.5 million tons with
imports at 5.5 million tons. Corn production is 2003/04 is
forecast at 41.5 million tons and marketing year exports at
4.0 million tons. Post forecasts exports to increase to 4.5
million tons in 2004/05 with production at 43.5 million tons.
Rice production is forecast up from the previous Post forecast
to 8.3 million tons with calendar 2004 imports at 600,000
tons. Imports are forecast to increase in 2004/05 to 1.0
million tons as production falls to 7.5 million tons. Sorghum
production in 2003/04 is estimated at a record 2.1 million
tons with record exports at 450,000 tons. Production in
2004/05 is forecast at 2.2 million tons and exports at 400,000
tons.

PERU, March 26, 2004 -- Sugar production in CY 2004 is
forecast to decrease seven percent to 902,000 MT. Lack of
water during the growing season is the main cause of this
fall.

SOUTH AFRICA, REPUBLIC OF, March 26, 2004 -- South Africa's
2004 wine production is expected to reach a total of about
1.250 million MT. Wine production, which include juice
concentrates for non-alcoholic purposes, rebate and distilling
wine, is expected at 9.647 million HL at an average recovery
of about 7.72 HL for every one metric ton of grapes.

Wheat Consumption Update
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, March 26, 2004 -- Dominican Republic is
a net wheat importer due to climatic limitations. Most imports
are from the United States because of quality and price,
except occacional shipments from Canada. Imports decreased in
MY 2002 and again in MY 2003 due to high international prices
and weakening of the Dominican peso.
