Pakistan to import fertiliser

ISLAMABAD (May 08 2004): Country is likely to import one hundred thousand tonnes fertiliser by the end of the year to meet shortage fur 'Khareef' season.

At present, the country's total requirements of 4.4 million tonnes of fertiliser is being fulfilled by local companies, PTV reported.

However, during 'Khareef' season, increase in cultivation is expected for which fertiliser requirement could not be met locally.

It will be first time after 2001, the country will import fertiliser.

However, the sources of local fertiliser companies said that they can increase their production if government facilitate them.

They also said that the shortage problem of fertiliser could be solved permanently if the authorities address the difficulties of the local companies.
