WF Students disrupt forest conference
By Our Correspondent
MINGORA, March 10:
Students of the Government Postgraduate Jehanzeb
College Swat disrupted a one-day forest conference
organized by the NWFP forest department here on
Tuesday.
Provincial senior minister Sirajul Haq, who was
expected to attend the function as chief guest,
did not arrive here. Students were protesting
against the government's decision to hand over a
piece of land to the Pakistan Cricket Board,
saying that it was the property of the college.
Students reached the conference's venue in a
procession and chanted slogans against the
government's policies. They also disrupted
arrangements made for the forest conference.
Later, students also blocked the main
Mingora-Saidu Sharif road, but they were dispersed
by the police. A student and a constable were also
injured. Earlier, Nazim of the Swat district
Miangul Asfandyar Amirzeb told participants of the
conference that committees would be formed for the
protection of forests, adding concerted efforts
were needed in that regard.
