URS holds conference on food safety
LAHORE (March 28 2004): United Registrar of
Systems (URS), a UK based food quality and safety
certification organisation, in partnership with
the leading biscuit company, English Biscuit
Manufacturers (EBM), organised a third National
Conference on Food Safety under the banner of
'Safe Food 2004' here on Saturday.
Speaking at the conference, Mubashir Bokhari,
General Manager Marketing and Sales EBM, said that
conference mainly focused on generating
understanding among diverse social and industrial
segments and media on food standards and the
importance of increasing literacy towards
consuming wholesome and safe food.
Sadia Naveed, Director (Operations) EBM, narrated
the importance of consuming safe food and
described EBM's role in supporting the safe food
campaign. Referring to EBM's own compliance to
food safety standards, she said, "We realise the
importance of maintaining the standards of food
quality and we ensure that all necessary measures
are taken in order to meet the required
standards."
Ali Khan, Country Head URS, said that central
objective behind organising the third Safe Food
Conference 2004 is to create awareness on safe
food.
Undoubtedly, it is not an easy task to create
awareness on this issue, but URS hopes to achieve
it, especially with the support of a responsible
manufacturer, such as EBM.
Other speakers including Abrar Hasan, Managing
Director National Foods; Muhammad Aslam,
Consultant National Foods; Mazhar Siraj from CRCP
Islamabad; Mehnaz Shiraz, an advocate from Lahore;
Tariq Naeem, Senior Manager Quality Assurance EBM;
Mustafa Kamal from Poultry Association of Pakistan
and Naeemullah Naeem General Manager Popular Foods
supported the safe food vision.
