Seminar on yellow rust from March 22
ISLAMABAD (March 20
2004): The Pakistan Agricultural Research Council
(Parc) is organising a five-day international
second regional yellow rust conference here from
March 22.
The Parc Chairman, Dr Badaruddin Soomro, will
inaugurate the conference, which would consider
the success of and report on progress since the
first regional yellow rust conference, held in
Karaj, Iran in 2001.
The conference would be spread over various
technical sessions, which include presentations,
by invited speakers organised as symposia, on the
general themes of "disease epidemiology",
"resistance breeding and genetics", "disease
management" and "application of biotechnology" as
well as posters, field tours and specialised
evening sessions.
The conference would provide the opportunity for
researchers to exchange ideas, share views and
information on new approaches and discuss
practical means of managing cereal rust diseases.
It would also provide, researchers and students
from Central Asia and North Africa countries, a
forum to present the problems and constraints of
handing cereal rust diseases and the opportunity
for establishing linkages among researchers from
Central Asia and North Africa, developed countries
and international canters.
The conference would be attended by the scientists
and experts from Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Egypt,
Ethiopia, Nepal, Australia, Central Asian and
North African countries.
