Punjab governor assures help to PHDEB
LAHORE (March 30 2004): Punjab Governor Lieutenant
General Khalid Maqbool (Retd) has advised the
Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Board
(PHDEB) to conduct complete value chain analysis
of citrus and mango cultivation from pre-harvest
to post-harvest process.
According to a press release issued here by PHDEB,
the governor extended this advice at a meeting
with Afaq Tiwana, Chairman and Shamoon Sadiq,
Chief Executive Officer of the PHDEB.
The governor was of the view that potential
existing in the horticulture sector in Punjab was
not being fully utilised.
He asked the PHDEB management to identify the
areas where government assistance was required for
development of the horticulture sector. He assured
the government's help in achieving the set targets
of growth in this particular area.
Shamoon Sadiq Chief Executive Officer of PHDEB
gave a presentation on the scope and activities of
the board. He disclosed that the horticulture
sector had an export market of $75 billion at
world level but Pakistan was only able to export
of $179 million.
