ISLAMABAD (March 28 2004): Ministry of Industries and Production has received proposals from all stakeholders regarding formulation of long term sugar policy to resolve problems on permanent basis.

Sources said the provincial governments; growers, mills association and Ministry of Food and Agriculture have submitted their proposals and suggestions to the Ministry in this regard.

The Ministry, on the directives of Minister for Industries and Production, Liaquat Ali Jatoi, will thoroughly study the proposals and submit it to the Economic Co-ordination Committee of the Cabinet for approval.

Sources said the government has decided to resolve the problems of the growers, millers and other stakeholders on permanent basis and a long-term policy would be formulated with their consensus. However, short-term measures would also be taken for the current season.

The Minister is of the view that problems of all stakeholders should be resolved once for all and there should be no grievances with each other, which normally emerge every year.

The long-term measures are complete solution of their problem, he opined.
