Ministry receives proposals to formulate sugar
policy
ISLAMABAD (March 28 2004): Ministry of Industries
and Production has received proposals from all
stakeholders regarding formulation of long term
sugar policy to resolve problems on permanent
basis.
Sources said the provincial governments; growers,
mills association and Ministry of Food and
Agriculture have submitted their proposals and
suggestions to the Ministry in this regard.
The Ministry, on the directives of Minister for
Industries and Production, Liaquat Ali Jatoi, will
thoroughly study the proposals and submit it to
the Economic Co-ordination Committee of the
Cabinet for approval.
Sources said the government has decided to resolve
the problems of the growers, millers and other
stakeholders on permanent basis and a long-term
policy would be formulated with their consensus.
However, short-term measures would also be taken
for the current season.
The Minister is of the view that problems of all
stakeholders should be resolved once for all and
there should be no grievances with each other,
which normally emerge every year.
The long-term measures are complete solution of
their problem, he opined.
