JICA, govt to ink MoU on Thursday

LAHORE - (March 08
2004)The Punjab Government will sign MoU with
Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on
11th for securing aid worth Rs 790 million for
rehabilitation of drainage system in Lahore.
This was disclosed by District Nazim Mian Amer
Mahmood during his meeting with head of JICA
mission Mr Kayumi Shigetada here on Saturday.
Consultants of this aid-giving consortium had
alreadyprepared relevant report for improving
sewerage system in the City.
Mian Amer Mahmood informed that City District
Government (CDG) was not discriminating between
urban and rural areas. He said WASA jurisdiction
had been extended to over 1770 square Kilometers.
Deputy Managing Director Operations & Maintenance
WASA Pervaiz Iftikhar informed the delegation that
WASA needed four jetting machines, four sludge
suckers, two water tankers, twelve pick up for
transportation, eight dump trucks, two drag lines,
four submersible sludge pumps, two excavators, one
large excavator, two generators, two wheel loaders
and six pump sets, each of 40 cusecs capacity, for
improving drainage and sewerage facilities in
different localities of Lahore.
Prize distribution ceremony: Interior Minister
Makhdoom Faisal Saleh Hayat Saturday distributed
prizes among the position holders of the
University College Raiwind Road. He was chief
guest at the prize distribution ceremony of the
College. The Minister stressed quality education
in the institutions for uplift of the future
generations. He said the govt was taking all
possible measures to enhance literacy rate in the
country.
