Increase in milk prices

LETTER (March 07 2004): A sudden increase in the milk prices is another shock for the people as they are already under pressure owing to rise in the cost of essential items.

It is an open secret that the prices of medicines, the edible items and products of daily use are shooting up day in and day out.

Furthermore, the milkmen have started selling milk at Rs 25 instead of the approved rate of Rs 22 per litre.

The Dairy Farmers Association (DFA) has increased milk prices by almost Rs 3 per litre during Ashura and the rate has not come down.

Some milkmen attributed the rise in milk prices to poultry sellers' attitude, who were adopting the dairy business to recover their previous losses.

The world over, the poultry businesses are in crisis these days due to the bird flu.

Consumers can reduce their worries and can expect that prices are likely to come down in the near future as the news has appeared in the media that the city government and the DCO Karachi would take action against the illegal decision of the association.
