Govt to
develop agro-EPZs in Sindh
ISLAMABAD: The
ministry of industries has decided to develop
agro-export processing zones in Sindh.
“The main processing centre is being set up in
Karachi to maximize the exports of agriculture
products, which would help earn huge foreign
exchange,” an official source told PPI.
He said the work on the Karachi agro-export
processing zone is in progress and expected to be
completed during the current year. Under this
project, collection, grading, processing, packing
and cold storage facilities would be provided in
the main processing centre in Karachi.
The government would provide a number of
facilities to the investors to invest in the
agriculture export processing zone, said the
source.
Small export processing zones would also be set up
in various towns of Sindh to collect agro products
from the rural areas and shift them to the main
processing zone for export purpose.
These processing zones would be established in
Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Skrand, Naushero Feroze and
Ghotki.
The source said that these small processing zones
would preferably be set up along the main highways
to ensure easy access and smooth transportation of
refrigerated cargo to the main processing zone in
Karachi.
The government is taking various measures to
attract investors and enhance Pakistani exports
especially in the agriculture sector, he said.
