Flour mills strike: a clarification
KARACHI (March 07
2004): The Sindh Food Department, clarifying a
news item appeared in a section of press regarding
closure of flour mills, has said that the Food
Department issues wheat to the mills to keep
stability in atta price.
A Food Department spokesman, in a handout issued
here, clarified that in the present situation, the
department was issuing 200 wheat bags per day to
each mill in Karachi.
The quantity of wheat would be increased in a few
days after replenishment of stocks in government
godowns, he added.
The release of wheat to Sukkur mills had been
delayed due to sealing of godowns under the orders
of Sindh High Court, he said adding the matter was
being pursued and wheat in Sukkur would be
released in the next few days.
