Flour millers hail lifting of ban on wheat
movement
KARACHI (March 10
2004): Pakistan Flour Mills Association (Sindh
Circle) has hailed Sindh Government decision to
remove the ban on inter-provincial movement of
wheat as the steps, according to the Association,
will help solve the wheat crisis.
In a press statement, the Association said that
the movement of wheat would ease the arrival of
wheat in Karachi and it would solve the problem of
flour shortage.
Meanwhile, it is reported that Sindh Government
has allowed the flour mill owners to make direct
purchases of wheat from growers. This step would
also help to remove the shortage of flour.
Official sources said that private parties are not
allowed to make procurement of wheat from growers.
But there is general complaint that private
parties are making purchases and nobody is
stopping them from doing so.
Private parties are reported not paying the fixed
price. The government is yet to set up the
procurement centres.
