CDGK rejects hike in milk price

KARACHI (March 31 2004): City District Government Karachi (CDGK) rejecting the recent price hike in milk has retained it at Rs 22 per liter as was prescribed in October 2003.

The decision was taken in a meeting of CDGK officials with the representatives of Dairy Farmers Association, consumer right and NGOs, held under the chairmanship of DCO, Karachi Mir Hussain Ali on Tuesday.

Showing resolve to check arbitrary price hike in the prices of essential edible commodities, the DCO mentioned that concrete steps were being taken to tackle the issue, which included the delegation of magisterial power to DDOs revenue.

The price check committee of CDGK also presented its report in the meeting in which it termed the increase unjustified and set whole sale price of milk at Rs 19.60 per liter.

In response to the committee report the President, Dairy Farmer Association Haji Sikander expressed his annoyance and described the report as lopsided one.

EDO Enterprise and Investment Promotion, CDGK, Raeesuddin Paracha also attended the meeting besides others.
