Agri bodies directed not to set up check-posts
beyond jurisdiction
HYDERABAD (March 31 2004): The director-general of
agriculture and research on the directive of
provincial food and agriculture minister issued
notice to all agriculture produce market
committees not to set up check-post beyond
market-notified area or else legal action would be
taken against them.
This directive has been issued following
complaints that contractors of market committees
have set up illegal check-post beyond notified
area of market committees on roadside and
collecting fee on items of agriculture produce
even when a farmer carrying his own crop to his
house for personal consumption.
Under the terms of contract, the contractor is
authorised to collect market fee on items of
agriculture produce within the notified market
area and is not authorised to collect fee on
cattle and sugar mills.
But it was found that the contractors are
collecting fee in violation of schedule of Section
2(a) of the APM Act 1939 sub rules 11 of rule 29
of APM rules 1940. The growers have pointed out
illegal set up check-post by the market contractor
who are collecting illegal fee on items of
agriculture produce for last three months with
impunity and demanded that all such posts should
be abolished immediately.
Meanwhile, growers and elected representatives of
Dadu district staged a protest campaign against
the action of market committees, allegedly, have
let lose a reign of loot and plunder and demanded
that the contractor system should be abolished
immediately.
