Sugarcane cess fund: over Rs 235 million

FAISALABAD (January 27 2004): An amount of Rs 235.232 million would be spent on repairs, construction, improvement and widening of different roads/link roads and repair/construction of bridges from sugarcane cess fund in the different areas of Faisalabad.

On completion of these schemes, not only farmers would get better facilities of carrying their sugarcane to the sugar mills but the people of these areas would also be able to travel and transport their goods etc to different places easily and conveniently.

This was told in a meeting of the District Sugarcane Cess Committee held under the chairmanship of DCO Tahir Hussain.

The meeting was informed that nine out of 13 schemes with an estimated cost of Rs 35.272 million had been completed in the area of Hussain Sugar Mills Jaranwala, while work on four schemes was in progress.

Four new schemes were also approved in the meeting, which would cost an expenditure of Rs 8.053 million.

Five schemes of the Crescent Sugar Mills area have been completed and work on one scheme is going on, involving an expenditure of Rs 11.579 million.

Approval of one new scheme was also accorded in the meeting, which would cost Rs 1.5 million.

With an expenditure of Rs 16.290 million, eight schemes in the area of Gojra Samundri Sugar Mills in Samundri have been completed, work on two schemes is in progress.

Two new schemes were also approved in the meeting involving a cost of Rs 1 791 million.

In Tandlianwala Sugar Mills' Area, 14 schemes have been completed with an expenditure of Rs 63.56 million, while administrative approval of a scheme was also accorded according to the revised estimate.

In the area of the same mills, approval of three new schemes was also given which would involve an expenditure of Rs 9.462 million.

With an expenditure of Rs 5.4775 million, 13 schemes have been completed in Chanar Sugar Mills Tandlianwala area.

Work on three schemes is in progress, while the work on one scheme would be started after the end of current crushing season.

Approval of six new schemes was also accorded, which would cost Rs 13.531 million. With an expenditure of Rs 8.894 million four schemes have been completed in the area of Fauji Sugar Mills in Faisalabad tehsil, while approval was also accorded for the repair and improvement of a road in Haseeb Waqas Sugar Mills' area, from Buchiana railway station to Nankana Sahib up to district boundary, which would cost an expenditure of Rs 2.445 million.

Approval for the construction of two other roads was also accorded on the proposal of members of the Sugarcane Cess Committee, which would cost Rs 8.08 million.

The DCO directed the representatives of sugar mills that the payment of sugarcane should be made to the farmers without any delay.

He further directed them to send the details of the government dues paid by their respective mills to his office so that its proper record could be kept.
