| No need to get panicky: PPA LAHORE (January 28 2004): Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) has urged the general public not to get panicky due to outbreak of viral influenza among poultry in Thailand and the adjoining East Asian countries.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Punjab Chief of PPA, Abdul Basit said that the disease, which affected poultry in Karachi during the months of October and November, had nothing to do with the bird flue epidemic in East Asia.
He said that the influenza strain responsible for disease among poultry in Karachi was different from that active in Thailand and other East Asian countries.
Moreover, the disease did not affect the meat producing chickens (broiler).
He urged the people not to get panic due to the disease among poultry in the Far East and assured that the hygienic standards in Pakistan's poultry farms were at par with those in the developed countries.
