| Move to grow Chinese watermelon in Sindh KARACHI (January 21 2004): A delegation of Chinese businessmen called on Sindh Food and Agriculture Minister Arif Mustafa Jatoi at his office on Tuesday and discussed development of various varieties of Chinese crop seeds, including watermelon, in Sindh.
Ma Mingcheng, head of the Chinese delegation, said that China wanted to introduce new varieties of seeds of vegetables, especially watermelon, in Sindh.
He said that China is the biggest supplier of top quality watermelon and melon hybrid seed. It is the largest watermelon and melon producing and consuming country in the world.
He said that their mission was to deliver the superior genetics with best grown and processed seeds along with best possible service and reliable quality.
He added that they wanted business partnership and business opportunities with domestic and foreign seed companies. "With our branded seeds, growers would get better yield."
The minister welcomed Chinese offer and proposed to introduce these seeds in the coastal areas of Sindh so that the production of watermelon could be increased.
