Sugarcane crushing almost completed
KARACHI (April 18
2004): Practically all the sugar mills in the
country have completed the seasonal crushing of
sugarcane and have now pulled down their shutters.
A few mills are reportedly still operating and
will close down the crushing within about a week.
The official figure of total production is yet to
come but according to industry sources, the total
production has touched the figure of four million
tones, which is a record.
Informed sources said that the entire sugarcane
crop all over the country has been crushed and
there is no complaint whatsoever from the growers.
The source observed that the next year's crop may
be short of target, which will eventually affect
the sugar production.
