Sindh asked not to curb wheat movement
KARACHI (April 03 2004): The Federal Government
has asked the Sindh Government not to put any
restriction on the movement of wheat from Sindh to
other provinces because the restriction would
adversely affect the prices of the commodity now
being paid to the growers by the private parties.
The Ministry of Food has received reports that
private parties are paying more than the support
price fixed by the Government at Rs 352 for 40 kg.
The price that growers are receiving from the
private parties ranges from Rs 352 to Rs 380 for
40 kg.
The commodity is moving from Sindh to Punjab and
Balochistan. That is why the growers are paid
attractive prices.
The Sindh Government wants that reserves should be
maintained in the province so that there is no
shortage of the commodity at any time in the
future.
With the arrival of the new crop in Sindh, the
prices of flour have come down to reasonable
level. There is no shortage of any kind in the
market now.
