Poultry sector assured of various incentives
LAHORE (April 11 2004): Punjab Minister for Live
Stock and Dairy Development Haroon Sultan has said
that government is well aware of the problems
being faced by POULTRY sector and various
incentives are being extended to this industry.
While addressing the inaugural session of
'National POULTRY Congress 2004' here on Friday
Haroon maintained that Punjab Chief Minister has
asked the authorities concerned to facilitate the
POULTRY farmers and redress their grievances.
He said that Live Stock is one of the most
important sectors of the economy, which demands
special attention.
Addressing on the occasion, Muhammad Athar Tahir
Secretary Live Stock and Dairy Development said
that virus of bird flu does not exist in the
entire country and the representatives of Food and
Agriculture Organisation (FAO), World Health
Organisation (WHO), and the European Union
confirmed this.
"Unfortunately the rumour factories of vested
interests have obliged the public to refrain from
consuming POULTRY products. Resultantly POULTRY
industry has suffered heavy losses running in to
billions of rupees", he added.
Abdul Basit, Chairman Pakistan POULTRY Association
Punjab Zone, said that POULTRY sector of Pakistan
direly need assistance from the government.
The government must provide 10-year income tax
exemption to all POULTRY organisations.
Electricity tariff for the POULTRY farms should be
similar to other industrial units. He demanded
that special grant and interest free loans be
given to small commercial POULTRY farmers.
He demanded of the government to withdraw import
duties upon the import of feed ingredients.
Dr Hasan Sarosh Akram Chief Organiser of the
POULTRY Congress 2004 said that the objectives of
the congress are to organise PPA on professional
grounds, to share recent development in different
areas of POULTRY production.
During technical session, Dr Muhammad Sadiq, Dr
Abdul Ghafoor Chaudhry. Haji Muhammad Bashir, Mian
Naseer Manoo, Muhammad Hussain Mehanti, Abdul
Hayee Mehta, Mir Tahir Zaidi, Dr Naeem Tariq, Dr
Abdul Kareem, Dr Johann Brey, Dr Athar, Dr
Muhammad Aslam, Raza Mehmood, Muhammad Hussain
Patel, Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf, Dr Israr Shah, Dr
Mussadiq Chaudhry, Waheed-ud-din, Dr Hanif Nazir,
Dr Bashir Mahmood Bhatti and Dr Muhammad Afzal
presented papers.
