Kachhi Canal to bring farm revolution
QUETTA (April 07 2004): The Balochistan
agriculture scene will undergo a welcome change
when the Kachhi Canal project is completed in the
next three years at a cost of over Rs 31 billion.
Under this project over 0.7 million acres of land
will be provided with irrigation water in the
areas of Naseerabad, Jaffarabad and Bolan
districts. This project will result in an increase
in cultivated area and orchard land in the three
districts.
The funds for the canal project are being provided
by the federal government.
It is a major project in Balochistan in the field
of irrigation water. The Mirani Dam in Kech
district and the Subakzai Dam in Zhon district,
costing a sum of over one billion and six billion
rupees, respectively, will also bring about a
favourable change in the standard of living of the
people in these two districts.
Some 22 bulldozers are also being acquired for the
project from the special grant given by the
Peoples Republic of China for the province.
