Fruits exporters to meet ANF officials on April
26
KARACHI (April 25
2004): A meeting of the fruits exporters with the
officials of Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) will be
held at the office of Pakistan Horticultural
Development Board (PHDB) on Monday (April 26) to
discuss the mode of inspection adopted by the ANF
for export consignments at Port Qasim.
The meeting will discuss the exporters' complaints
that de-stuffing of perishable items for
anti-narcotics lead to degeneration of quality of
fruits and vegetable.
They suggested that the shipments of the bona fide
exporters should be cleared without de-stuffing of
the contents of the containers and only the
consignments presented by the newcomers should be
placed under strict anti-narcotic checks.
The Vegetable Exporters Group, which met under the
aegis of PHDB this week, expressed satisfaction on
the pace of export of surplus potato, which has
brought stability to the prices in the domestic
market to the advantage of the growers.
The meeting requested the Export Promotion Bureau
(EPB) to extend the period of subsidy up to
December 31 with a view to continuing the tempo of
potato exports.
