Food department procures 0.9 million tonnes
wheat
LAHORE (April 29
2004): Food Department Punjab has so far procured
0.9 million metric tons wheat in the province
while the procurement campaign is in full swing.
In a press statement here on Wednesday, Secretary
Food Punjab, Shahid Hassan Raja, has said that 50
percent harvesting of wheat has been completed
while the threshing of wheat is in progress.
He said that marketing of wheat in central Punjab
would stabilise the price of atta. Inspection
teams have already been constituted which are
reviewing the procurement campaign in Punjab.
He said that 15 million gunny bags have already
been distributed among the farmers while one
million more are being distributed daily.
He said that he would personally check the
procurement campaign in Rawalpindi and Gujranwala
regions whereas the director food, additional
director food would monitor it in southern Punjab
and central Punjab respectively.
He said that the price of wheat is being paid to
the farmers on the spot and they are not facing
any inconvenience in this regard.
