Cotton output close to 9.8 million bales
KARACHI (April 18
2004): Cotton production has come close to 9.8
million bales by April 15, indicating that the
overall production has crossed 10 million bales.
According to the latest figures issued by Pakistan
Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) on Saturday, so
far the total production touched 9.770 million
bales.
However, some ginners maintained that since
ex-ginned cotton was close to 9.8 million bales
then the over all cotton production (including
un-ginned cotton) has crossed 10 million bales.
It is generally believe that some 0.3 to 0.5
million bales of un-ginned cotton are used every
year for local purposes like making pillows and
other essentials for winter season.
The late arrivals of cotton, which still continue,
has proved wrong the predictions of some cotton
experts that total production would remain much
below last year's output.
Last year's overall production was 10.3 million
bales.
