Agriculture sector uplift top priority: Sindh

HYDERABAD (April 09 2004): Sindh Chief Minister,
Ali Muhammad Mahar has said that the government is
giving top priority to agriculture sector and
efforts are being made by both public and private
sectors to address all problems confronted by the
agriculture community in the province.
Talking to a growers delegation at Magsi House on
Tuesday he said that the government is fully aware
of the problems confronted by the growers and had
already taken various steps to introduce modern
farm management system, improved marketing system
of agriculture.
He said that the banking sector has also launched
tractors financing scheme, and improved the rating
of production loans.
He said no major water project would be undertaken
with out the consensus of opinion of all the
stakeholders in the country. He hoped that water
distribution system would be brought strictly
under Water Accord 1991 in the interest of
national solidarity.
Later, talking to a delegation of citizens he
conceded that the civic infrastructure has been
failed due to negligence of successive government
in the past and assured that all civic facilities
would be restructured under development package of
Hyderabad.
The chief minister was informed that the water
born diseases are gaining alarming proportions due
to supply of contaminated drinking water to the
people.
He also met a delegation of PML-(Q) headed by Dr
Badar Channa and discussed with them party
matters.
