Two Mirpurkhas mills barred for wheat stock
selling outside city
MIRPURKHAS (February
27 2004): Two flour mills of Mirpurkhas were
barred from selling their wheat stock outside the
city after Food officials unearthed big quantity
of wheat in a raid on Wednesday.
The mills, identified as Chundija Flour Mill and
Memon Flour Mill, were raided by Deputy Director
Food Mirpurkhas who prohibited them from selling
their privately purchased wheat stock outside the
Mirpurkhas after their failure to provide month
wise purchase data of the wheat stocks to local
Food Department.
Report said that on suspicion of storage of a big
quantity of wheat bags in the flour mills, Deputy
Director Food Mirpurkhas Saleem Raza Khero along
with district food controller Mirpurkhas Nazeer
Ahmed Memon conducted raids at Chundija Flour Mill
and Memon Flour Mill and found 2700 wheat bags and
3900 bags respectively in the mills godowns. The
wheat was reportedly purchased privately and was
stored in the mills.
The Deputy Director Food bound the owners of both
the flour mills not to sell their stock of wheat
outside the Mirpurkhas.
The two mills were also issued show cause notices
about the matter
Talking to newsmen, Saleem Raza Khero said that he
also impounded a truck, loaded with flour bags of
Chundija Flour Mills, transporting the stock to
Hyderabad from Mirpurkhas.
He conceded that at present a flour crisis was
being experienced and hoped that with start of
March it will end as adequate quantity of wheat of
new crop will come into the markets.
