Rs 20 million paid as Thatta Sugar Mills staff
part of salaries
KARACHI (February 24
2004): Sindh Minister for Commerce and Industries
Muhammad Adil Siddiqui distributed Rs 20 million
among 902 employees of Thatta Sugar Mills as part
payment of their dues at the Circuit House Thatta
on Sunday.
This payment of was in addition to Rs 20 million
distributed earlier to the employees of the mills.
The mill owes to its employees their salaries and
other payments for as long as the mills remains
closed and waiting for privatisation.
The employees have been demanding of the
management to calculate total outstanding dues but
so far the mills management has not come out with
the exact amount.
The minister addressed the employees after
disbursing money and said that the remaining
amount of dues would be paid to them after the
mill is sold out.
Adil said he would take up the demand of the
employees for drawing up a golden handshake scheme
after discussing the matter with the chief
minister and finance minister so that the
interests of the employees could be safeguarded in
a proper manner.
He said that the welfare of the workers was dear
to him and he would do his best to meet their
demands.
MPA Heer Sooho, Director Labour Hassan Abbas Naqvi,
Chairman Sindh Sugar Corporation Mali Mohan,
Director Education Cess Karim Buksh Siddiqui,
Director Manpower Wali Mohammed Baloch, Director
Workers Welfare Board Zafar Salim and Medical
Adviser, Sessi, Dr Haseeb Qureshi were also
present on this occasion.
