No bird flu in Punjab reported: minister
LAHORE (February 25
2004): Punjab Minister for Livestock and Dairy
Development, Syed Haroon Sultan Bokhari has
categorically said that bird flu virus was not
found in any part of the province.
While addressing a press conference along with
Chairman Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) Punjab
Zone, Abdul Basit here on Tuesday, Bokhari said
that federal government had constituted a
committee comprising representatives from WHO, FAO,
and UE, which surveyed all the districts of the
province.
They submitted a report, which said that there was
no evidence of bird flu virus in any part of the
province.
He said that due to negative propaganda the
poultry industry was facing crisis and hundred of
thousands families was effected. There had been
unprecedented increase in the prices of mutton,
fish and beef.
He asked the people to take chicken meat without
any fear.
