NGO offers agri training to farmers
DADU (February 27
2004): Regional Director, Reformer Development
Organisation (RDO) Sayed Shafqat Ali Shah has said
that his organisation is arranging workshops
through NGOs to teach and train agriculturists and
"haris" (growers) in better utilisation of land
and attainment of higher production.
He was addressing a meeting of District Council
here on Wednesday which was presided over by the
District Naib Nazim Dr Zahid Hussain Jatoi.
Director RDO reminded that the country's
agriculture had not developed despite passage of
56 years since independence which necessitated
provision of training in modern techniques to the
farming community, he pointed out.
Addressing the Council meeting District Naib Nazim
said he had discussed the matter of allocation of
Rs five lakh (0.5 million) for the Nazim of every
Union Council (UC) with District Nazim and
District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) but they did
not agree.
The Nazima of UC Jamshoro complained that though
the Council had passed various resolutions no
visible relief had been provided to the public so
far.
She reminded the House it has been in existence
for the last 30 months now.
Some Nazims boycotted the meeting over information
that the proposal to allocate Rs five lakh to each
UC Nazim had not been accepted.
Nazim Bahawalpur Saeed Jamali maintained that
bureaucracy wanted to make local government system
unsuccessful.
