KARACHI (February 24 2004): Syed Najaf Hussain Shah was re-elected as Chairman of Rice Exporters Association (Reap) for 2004-05 on Monday. He was elected unopposed at the managing committee meeting, which was attended by 16 members.

Four members faxed their support to the new leader.

Syed Najaf, earlier elected as the new Reap chairman, had resigned on February 11 after the Opposition group questioned his election and had asked the government not to accord representation to the Reap in official delegations and meetings.

The elections were witnessed among others by Siraj Kassam Teli, Salim Kapadia of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Yahya Polani of Travel Agents Association of Pakistan and representatives from the print and electronic media.
