Farmers complain of water theft
By Our Correspondent
BADIN, Feb 26: Growers
of seven Dehs of Badin taluka have accused
irrigation officials of the Kadhan sub-division,
Akram Wah division, of selling their share of
water to landlords of the upstream of Noor
Distributary, Kazia Wah.
The allegation was levelled by Mohammad Hashim Dal,
Zahid Mallah and other farmers while talking to
journalists here on Tuesday. They said that water
was being stolen through unauthorised and tampered
with watercourses and installing of unauthorised
modules into the water channels by the influential
landlords, backed by the irrigation officials.
They said that as a result, an artificial shortage
of water had been created in their canals but
water was available in Kazia Wah. They warned that
if the situation persisted, thousands of acres of
their lands in Lohan, Dheengar, Khalifa, Thath and
four others Dehs would turn barren and the farmers
would be compelled to migrate.
The farmers demanded that the higher authorities
of the irrigation department should ensure that
they were provided provision of their share of
water. They also complained that the doors of 70-
year-old regulator of Noor Wah were not properly
functioning as their rings were loose, resulting
into hurdle in water flow.
