| Poultry farmers advised to adopt scientific methods KARACHI (February 12 2004): The Union of Small & Medium Enterprises (Unisame) has urged the poultry farmers to adopt scientific methods and maintain hygienic conditions and carry out vaccination, as advised, to avoid any infection.
Zulfiqar Thaver, convener at Unisame, advised poultry farmers to use quality feeds for healthy breeding.
He said healthy feeds would give healthy chickens and the poultry farmers must look after their birds properly. He praised the farmers for having achieved progress in the industry.
The convenor advised the SME poultry farmers not to be discouraged by the setback caused by rumours and prevail upon the consumers and carry out joint and collective programmes for the improvement and development of the poultry industry.
Unisame also advised the poultry farmers to approach Pakistan Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (PCSIR) to develop medicines to fight viruses and bird infections which are damaging for the industry. He said PCISR has developed liquids for the birds and the same are not costly and the industry must use the liquid medicines to keep away bird flu disease.
Unisame requested the breeders to adopt new techniques of spraying medicines to keep up away bacteria from their hens and treat them from time to time to breed healthy chicken. One participant from Surjani Town, New Karachi, explained that there was absolutely no need to avoid chicken for the kitchen and clarified that the virus had been eradicated which was prevalent only in layers and that, too, when cooked at 70 degrees temperature, kills the bacteria and the same is not harmful. However, it has been completely eradicated and people can eat chicken without any fear.
He advised the SMEs to invest in poultry farming and earn good profits.
