| Government to promote handicrafts LAHORE (February 12 2004): The Punjab government will promote various products, especially the handicrafts manufactured by industrial co-operative societies, said the Provincial Minister for Co-operatives Colonel Malik Mohammad Anwar Khan (Retd).
Addressing a function, the minister said that the Co-operative Department Punjab has set up a stall at National Horse and Cattle show to introduce the articles prepared by the industrial co-operative societies, running under the auspices of the co-operative department Punjab.
"We can bring about revolution in the industrial sector by following the golden principles of co-operative movement, however, to achieve this goal we need to make the co-operative institutions strong," the minister observed.
Highlighting the role of co-operative institutions, he said that in the agriculture sector they are playing a significant role, adding that in the co-operative sector, the Punjab Provincial Co-operative Bank is providing Rs 7 billion in shape of agriculture loans.
"Like agriculture sector, we also want to see progress in the industrial sector but that could not be made unless the co-operative societies work with honesty and dedication," he viewed.
