Shelman water supply scheme to complete in three years
PESHAWAR (October 28 2003): The gigantic Shelman water Supply Scheme is being launched to meet the potable water requirement of the people of Landi Kotal from River Kabal.
The project scheduled to complete in three phases is expected to cost Rs 318 million.
This was disclosed during a presentation to the NWFP Governor Lieutenant General Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah (Retd) about the project, held at Governor's House here on Monday, which was attended by Secretary to Governor Sahibzada Saeed Ahmad and senior officials of Governor's Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) Secretariat.
The consultant firm presented two different options for materialisation of the project out of which the first one was approved and the governor give
go ahead signal to the concerned authorities.
According to the proposal the water will be lifted from Shelman point of river Kabal in Khyber Agency and pumped to Inzari Top where big reservoirs would be constructed for onward supply to Landi Kotal and its surrounding areas.
To ensure provision of clean water to the masses a treatment plant will also be established at the starting point.
The Governor, while expressing his satisfaction over the feasibility of the project, directed the concerned authorities to look into its all aspects, especially with reference to cost, security and completion period and ensure to resolve the water shortage problem of the area at the earliest.
The Governor also desired that keeping in view expected increase in the population, possibility must also be created to meet the future requirements to a sufficient extent.
