Cotton prices lose further ground
Cotton prices depicted a bearish tone on Thursday as spinners refused to pay the higher asking prices. Their decision to withdraw to the sideline unless the prices come down to a reasonable level compelled the ginners to conceded more  ground to the buyers. As a result, most of the transactions took place at Rs3,400/3,475 for the Punjab variety and at Rs3,100/3,250 for  Sindh cotton.

ANALYSIS: government cuts cotton output target

Plan under way to cut oil import bill: Yousuf
Petroleum Secretary Abdullah Yousuf has said the government is striving hard for reducing the oil import bill by converting industries, including cement sector, from oil to gas. Addressing the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the Pakistan Academy of Geological Science here on Sunday, he said the process of conversion of cement sector is going on which has enabled the government to save $600 million to $700 million, while at present, the government is spending $3 billion annually on import of oil, which has to be reduced.

Cotton target hopes alive amid experts' fear
cotton experts have confirmed a shortfall of 3.64 percent in cotton production during the crop of 2003  but Sindh Extension officials are optimistic that the target of 2.4 million bales would be achieved despite pest infestation and shortage of  pesticides.
