IMPROVING  WORKING OF FMD RESEARCH CENTRE IN LAHORE

Allocation

Rs. 19.5 Million

Gestation Period

3 Years (2004-2007)

Objectives

1.       Through This project the vaccine quantity will be increased to one million doses per annum.

2.       To replace Complement Fixation test with two way ELISA system. Adopting of new technology will help to find out the type of FMD virus involved within hours without false results as the ELISA system is highly specific and broad-based. Further this system will enable the Centre to monitor serum for antibody response against different FMD virus.

3.       Currently, only type “O” vaccine is being produced in Pakistan. At least bivalent vaccine having the most prevalent types shall be produced and supplied in the field to afford better protection.

Status

Approved.
